I’ve seen some discussion in the archives re: instant water heaters and am seriously considering their installation in the house we’re planning to begin building next year.
Currently I’m traveling in Europe — these units are everywhere. However, they vary dramatically in performance. Some get VERY hot very quickly, then cool again — leaving the possibility of burns for guests who are not used to them (yep, personal experience!).
Does anybody have 1st hand experience w/ them in the US? Any brands in particularly that you have a high personal opinion of? What would you do if you had to do it all over again — are they worth it?
BTW, the reason we are considering installing one of these is that the new house will be on a cistern — water is in short supply in Arizona — and we’ll have a long run to one of the bathrooms. So, I don’t want to be wasting precious water while we wait for it to warm up. (the apparent cost efficiency is just icing on the cake).
Thanks!
Dan.

The local Natural Gas Company here is selling these type units. Every customer that has had one put in has had positive remarks. I am in the middle of an addition and really want to put one in. Downside.....they are $7-800 plus they are to be put in by a gas fitter. No problem on the gas fitter with me, but the $800 is. The gas company will give me as many 40 gallon water heaters as I want, I would rather have the instaneous.
I cant find their website, but here is a dealer for the Continium Water Heater that I am talking about...
