Insulated Composite Envelope
I’m considering using ICE panels (Insulated Conposite Envelope), for a upcoming carriage house build I have coming up. These panels are EPS with embedded steel stud. They are very energy efficient for many reasons, high r value, eliminates thermal bridging, tight air seal. You can use them underground and therefore dont need to use concrete for a foundation wall.
The only issue for me is the manufacturing of EPS, (expanded polystyrene) how bad is it environmentally? They claim to create very little waste in its manufacturing process, and all panels are made to plan so again no waste on site. Thanks for any help
