Insulated Glass Window Sash Router Bits
I want to make window sash with double pane insulated glass.
I’ve not been able to find any reversible or two piece router bit
that is designed to produce the 1/2″ deep rabbets (and cope
cut on the rails) that will be deep enough to hide the aluminum
spacer in the double glass. All I’ve seen are bits with 1/4″
profile for single pane. I’m working with 1 3/4″ thick stock
as well. Am I missing something?
Tips appreciated!

There are no router bits that size. To do it one pass you must use a shaper. And believe me, unless you are making only one window, you will regret doing it with a router.
HOwever, if you must, you can make the pass with the router bit (Oldham Viper bits) and then with two passes on the table saw cut off the 1/4" extra on each side of the glass recess rabit. I made 75 windows using this method, and while they are nice, it took me most of a winter.
Buy a shaper and use your labor for more profitable endeavors.

amana makes a bit like you are talking about, it is adjustable up to about a 3/4 inch rabbit. you can put it into a router table but do not even try to free hand it
Hi James,
I don't suppose you know the Amana part number for the
bit you mentioned. I do remember looking at an Amana site
and the one sash bit I saw didn't look like what you describe
Thanks,
John
