Help me out if you could? The unfinished attic has loose wool insulation as well as Kraft pink roll insulation laid between the joists- brown paper barrier on Kraft insulation. Approximately 7-8 inches thick(combined). The Roof rafters are 2 x 4 trusses spaced 2′ foot O.C. with no insulation. The homeowner wants insulation installed b/w rafters – open attic ceiling. Is it possible to purchase insulation 22″in. wide and 3-1/2″inches thick- to coincide with 2 x 4 rafter width? Is it even necessary or functional to insulate both floor & ceiling in unfinished attic? Will that adversely effect the roof shingles above, if the attic is too insulated, or contained?
Any advice, words of wisdom, or thoughts on the matter are greatly appreciated!!!!
Somebody told me to go to the salvation army, pick-up a bunch of cotton blankets, and staple them b/w the rafters, for good thermal insulating.
