I live in SW Fla. and have an open truss carport. I would like to hang a ceiling and use the attic space for storage. Is it advisable to insulate this space? I feel the hot air rises to the top of the roof now and putting in a ceiling may trap the hot air in the carport. I can’t decide whether insulation would be beneficial, useless or detrimental. Waddaya say pros?

This is a carport as in open on the sides with just a roof structure over the car?
*Yes, no walls as of yet, though I will also be closing in one side. But it will always be used as a carport even if I close it in on all sides.
*Unless you are going to heat, cool, or live in the attic space, or store things in the attic space that are vulnerable to heat, forget about the insulation. Unless you close the sides in, insulating the roof to keep the area under it cooler is like running an air conditioner on your front porch: worthless.Steve
*You say open truss, do you mean trusses or open stick frame?Either way you need to know what the bottom cord loading is for trusses, or span and live load for the demension lumber used for the joist in stick framing.I would check out that detail before I even contemplated using the space for storage.
