Hi All !
I have what they call a baby back split house design. The front portion of the house has a low slope roof with large over hanging sofits. The house has a brick facia. I experienced ice daming last winter and took off the perforated sofit covers to see what was going on. When I looked up through, I notice there is only a thin batt of insulation running between the roof joice. The space between the roof sheathing and plaster ceiling (i’am assumming ) is approx 5 1/2″. I have a somewhat of an understanding that idealy you wanted the roof cold but I’am wondering what is the best way to inprove the insulation in this roof and still maintain air flow from the soffits up under the roof?
