All of you experts have provided me an absolute wealth of information for the various projects I have occuring on my ranch at any given time. Here’s one more of which I would like your input:
I am constructing a post/beam structure with an open crawl space. How do I best insulate and provide vapor barrier for the flooring? I’m unsure what type of insulation to use. I plan on using 2×6 or larger joists, probably 16′ OC. I want the floor quite strong to eliminate sqeeks and the like.
I’m in N. California with relatively mild climate.
many thanks!

How big will the platform be?
I did a 20 X 24 cabin where we used 1/2" OSB nailed to the bottom of the 2X8 joists while the floor system was built and slid on to the beams. We filled the space with FG batts, then put 3/4" t&g over for subfloor. Today probably would blow cellulose in instead of the FG.
Hey, thanks! I never thought of attaching to the bottom of the joists. I was trying to figure out how to attach to the bottom of the subflooring.
Proposed size at present is 28x48.
That's kind of big to use the slide-on-as-you-go technique, unless you did it in sections. You could always nail 1X ledgers on the inside bottom of the joists, and then lay rips of OSB in there. Alot more work.
Hi, JohhnyD, lots of food for thought. I would almost necessarily have to go in sections due to (1) personal skill level, and (2) available labor force (me and a couple of teen-age nephews).
Thanks for the ideas.
