Hey there!
Big fan of Patrick and the rest of the podcast team.
A few months back I was driving and there was a listener write-in and I swear heard Patrick say that insulating the rim board is no longer good practice- as it doesn’t allow the joists to dry and can lead to rot on the joist ends.
Insulating with a rigid foam board custom cut for each bay, or spray foaming with closed cell has been our company’s method but we’ll stop the practice if it’s known to cause rot.
Does anyone have any experience or remember what the thinking was for this?
Also, his could be climate zone related, we’re a building outfit in Saint Louis MO- Climate Zone 4.
Thanks!
