My wife and recently purchased an 83 year old home in St. Paul Minnesota. The house is a two story Prairie Style with a stucco exterior. I have stripped the house to the shell and am beginning the process of putting it back together. It will have new wiring, plumbing, and mechanical systems (forced-air) with drywall on the interior walls. Originally the house had no insulation which no doubt helped the house breathe, I would obviously like to tighten up the house and am considering insulating the walls with one of the blown in products. Should I be concerned over moisture wicking into the wall cavities through the stucco, leading to problems with mold and/or the stucco? Should I use fiberglass batts instead of blown in? The house is ballooned framed, has three foot over-hangs, and overall the stucco is in pretty good shape. I will be repairing any cracks in the stucco to slow moisture penetration from the outside.
