I recently posted the message about the use of powered attic ventillation – Thanks. Now I have another problem to solve. Two of my bedrooms in my new house (framed, but no sheetrock up yet) are vaulted. I will be using blown insulation, but what about these areas? I was thinking of using batt insulation, stapled to the roof rafters (2 X 6). Should I fir down a bit to allow for some ventillation? Is there a better insulation product other than fiberglass batt that is a practical choice, since I only have the width of the 2 X 6 rafter? What about a radiant barrier? THanks.

I`d fur down a bit to allow for more insulation as long as ceiling height isnt an issue. Also there is a product on the market,( Raft-R-Vent by Owens Corning I believe) that staples to the underside of roof deck and creates a ventilation channel between roof and insulation.

"DO IT RIGHT, DO IT ONCE"
I stapled up those stryo baffles first. Then I stapled up Fiberglass batts. I did this over 10 years ago. My Hubby built me a temp, scaffolding. Wish we would have invested in the nice used scaffold we now own sooner. Got scared to death when Hubby and I tried putting up stryofoam/combo fiberglass 1/2 inch 4x8 sheets last winter. The peak of roof is 14 feet up. We were on our nice 10 and 8 feet platform ladders. Got down and said " I am not going to do this again without a decent scaffold. Let us not be so cheap." Our life and bones are worth more than the 600 dollars we paid. We are in our early 50's.
This Lake house has been on going since 1989. We plan on putting up a nice suspended ceiling or paneling. We pay as we go. Bought a 3 foot and a 6 foot unit It is 29 inches wide. It has real nice locking casters. Bought two nice walkboards too. Also has guard rails. It is also height adjustable. We know we can sell it when we finally finish. We bought all of it from used from a big rental yard. Waco is the brand name. Very good condition. We have the shorter section on hooks right now under our big deck. The big section is still up in LR. Other half of our 1200 sq ft Lake home is 8 foot 4 inch ceilings. WE PUT THOSE STRYRO Panels there too. I wanted to put them on walls too, But Hubby said NO.
We went back to Lowes to buy more panels months later ,and they discoed them Boy was I Peeved. So will use those blue stryo boards in the rest of house. THe bathroom ceiling and the small laundry room ceiling. Good luck
