I took a couple of historic building tours for Father’s Day. Here are a couple of cool built-ins in the Huff-Lamberton House in Winona, MN
I posted pics of the exterior last year, today I made it inside. It has been horribly remuddled. A few gems remain.

BW,
I have enjoyed this thread and the wainscot thread. Not knowing the dates of the buildings, when I am in an Historic property it makes me realize how many tasks were done by hand with 'passed down' tools and techniques.
IMHO, most carpenters, actually most trades today are glorified installers, not craftsmen whom executed the work you depicted.

--"IMHO, most carpenters, actually most trades today are glorified installers, not craftsmen whom executed the work you depicted."I would have to agree with you. I am mostly an installer (probably 80% of the time). I do get to do some nice custom stuff, but it is not even close to what some of those Old World Craftsmen did.On the other hand, would I like to plane moldings by hand all day...nope.I would like to try my hand at woodcarving though. The way the wainscotting combined carpentry and wood carving was fantastic. I need to go back and take some more pictures. Those mansions would have been amazing to have watched during construction.
Cool pictures BW, I really like that wardrobe front looking piece.
I bought an old wardrobe at an auction, basket case, I've always intended to install it in a similar way as the one in that picture.

I've always enjoyed well done built-ins.I just finished a simple one myself, I think the HO's like it, but I don't like something about it...I'll post a pic in a new thread (maybe you can weight in on the design).Anyway, glad you enjoyed the "Huff Stuff." Did you catch the wainscotting thread?BTW, Looks like the Airstream sold.

Damn, sounded like a posibility to have another project sitting around waiting for me to do something with it!
Did you catch the wainscotting thread?
No I didnt, have to go have a look.
Regarding the built ins. I usually dont make any comments regarding design because if the customer is happy then what could I possibly have to offer?
I did see the thread and my only comment that I could offer is; your work looks first class but I dont like everything on the same plain, I'd have, and mind you thats just me, made the center section of the uppers maybe bump out a few inches, along with the soffitted area, possibly did the same for the center section on the lower unit. I just like the idea of multiple plains. gives a piece some depth for cheap money.
Breaks things up, allows a focus point, but again, thats just me and maybe this HO didnt want any of that and their impression of the unit is much more important then mine.
I've never walked away from a single piece of my work 100% happy, dont figure I ever will. If you gave the customer what they wanted plus some, then you did good.
