Hi Everyone!
Thought you might like to see some interior trusses we just finished building. They 8×10 DougFir cords spaning 24’and each cord wieghs about 300lbs. The top cord is 8 in 12 pitch and the bottom cord is 3 in 12.
We built them outside on a flat table first then labeled each legs and place each piece onto a flat bed to move over to the house. We rebuilt them inside and lifted them with two beam lifts. The center rod is 3/4″ steel with 1/2″ plate attached to the 42′ steel ridge beam. There are for trusses total.
The finished ceiling is Western Red Cedar which is running with the rafters blocked and glued.

Interesting. How big are those purlins? They look like 2x4s.
They're 6x6's.
Nice. How did you get the cedar ceiling in?
Nice work.
How are the trusses held up? Are they now a structural part of the roof?
zak
Thanks!
The 6x6 Purlins have a 3/4" plywood buck on the back side to space them down from the rafters, each rafter bay is blocked and the cedar is cut to slip behind the purlins and then glued and blind nailed.
The Trusses are not structural and they are supported at each end with a 6x8 bolted to the side walls and the center tie rod.

I'm generally opposed to homemade trusses, but those look kinda nice.

Just asking ....do you mean as opposed to a truss company or timber frame company building them?
I think you missed Boss' grin at the bottom of the post
Dang, sure is hard to catch subtlities of communication in this medium!
You may not have been around enough to know that I'm a truss designer. I've posted several times about people NOT building their own (structural) trusses. And several of the regulars her on BT like to poke fun at me about it from time to time. So what I said was just poking fun in general. And your trusses really do look nice.

Thanks for the reply & comments!
It was the "homemade" part that through me, I'll catch on quick!
We've got a guy like you at work. 99.9% of the time he's having fun with you but your not sure if you don't know him. We sit back and watch the entertainment when he get's a hold of a new guy.
Thanks again,
