Interior window trim w/ recessed jamb
Hello, I’m hoping you guys can give a novice some advice. I have been working in a room that was remodeled, but some things weren’t done well. In particular, there is a wall here that used to have paneling on it. I removed the paneling and installed drywall. I knew with the new wall thickness that it would create some issues with trim, however, the main issue is that when this room was remodeled, the window was not set at the proper depth to begin with, and correct extension jambs were not installed. In fact, if you look in the pictures, it seems as though the window was installed over the paneling! You can see paneling on the sides of the window. My question is, what’s the best way to get from the window to the new drywall so I can install new casing? Or is there a better form of casing I can use that would suit this situation better? When I say better, I mean not the standard big box window casing. I hope this makes sense, thanks in advance

Search “extension jambs” here and you should find detailed info.

I find that offsetting the extention jamb so that there is a 1/8" reveal works nicely. If you try to flush up the extension the glue line often telegraphs through
Reveals look good. Shadow lines add beauty.
Yes - the revel is a good idea. Makes extensions look much better.
