Here's what i do. Start up Irfanview, and open the picture you want to resize.
At the top of the screen click on Image, then go down to Resize/Resample and click on that.
In the window that opens, you can change the size in several different ways. I usually go to the right side of the screen and click on '640x480', then click OK.
Then, click on File at the top of the page, then go down to Save As. give the resized picture a different name (so you don't lose the full size version), find the folder where you want to save it, in the window to the right move the 'save quality' slider control down to 75 or 80 per cent, then click on Save.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
Irfan is cool but you can do it in "my pictures" pretty easy too.
Do the "attach files" click, browse (should go to "my pictures") Right click the desired picture, choose resize, take the top setting (should be default) and save. It will rename with the same name but (small) added on. It should be found at the bottom of the thumbnail page, click on it and attach. The flower pix was 847kb orig, 32k as attached using the above procedure
Try that and get back to me in the morning (;-).

Tried it your way, but there was no 'resize' option available.

What browser are you using? I use IE7, it goes to my pictures (windows xp w/serv pk 2) when I am in breaktime and hit browse to attach a file. The option shows up when I right click on the picture. Guess you must have some other combination, sorry.
Same setup, IE 7, XP w/SP2. Tried it seven ways to Sunday, but no 'Revise' option. Cest le vie. MS Windows at work.

When you click attach files here in the reply section the popup should ask you to browse, when I click that "my pictures" is the default file, I mouse over the desired pix, right click, the fifth line from top is "resize pictures", when I click that it gives me the options of many sizes and the smallest is the default.
I certainly have not worked any magic on this machine but that is what mine does.

Forgot to attach the downsized one last post. You do have remember to move to the new sized one.
Test test test
Cool, it seems to work but I had to go about it a little different than you suggested. Kind of round about but it worked. Saves me from having go into IrfanView. Which is good for me. I'm handy with my hands, not computers.
Thanks

We can imagine something that only exists in our heads, in a form that has no measureable, tangible reality, and make it actually occur in the real world. Where there was nothing, now there is something.

You can also resize a single picture or a folder full with the above. Copy the picture or folder to it and it automatically resizes it, adds a suffix to the name of each picture, and the originals remain untouched. Changes a 3meg picture to about 50k, and you don't need to know or remember anything technical about the resizing pictures.
