Don’t know if this is a tool or not, but thought if any of you (or any of your clients) are battling well water with high iron (orange toilet bowl, orange stains in the sink, funny taste, water turns orange after sitting in a glass for an hour), I have found what seems to be a pretty good solution.
It’s called a BIRM filter that, in my case, was specified for well water that tested out with:
>Iron…2.750 mg/L
> Manganese….055 mg/L
> PH 7.8 units
> Hardness, Total as CaCO3…242 mg/L
I brought these same test numbers to a major water treatment company (starts with “C”) that said “buy this huge water softener for $1495 and your problems will be over”
I asked about an iron filter, they said it wouldn’t work without this water softener. So much for that.
So I put in a 1.5 cu ft 6gpm BIRM filter tank with backwash valve. $438 delivered. Supposed to be little or no maintenance for years. Took about 6 DIY hours to load, set up and plumb in. Water runs clear!
Be happy to share more details about the company I dealt with and other stuff I learned along the way if anyone is interested.
Reason I’m posting this is because I percieved a huge amount of mis-information, stress, and ignorance from neighbors and friends while searching for a solution, and would like to “pay back” this forum’s participants with some hard-earned information that maybe will save some folks lots of time and money.

Tell me more- iron is a big problem here, and what I'm doing now certainly doesn't work....
what are you doing?

Important first step is to get a water test. I think this outfit does them for free or a nominal charge.
Because I discerned so much quackery, ignorance and blatant hype while doing research, I sent my sample to an independant lab and paid $64 for the results.
