I have just shocked my well but now I have really bad iron problems. I have a filter before the softener when I checked the filter it had about 1/2 inch of iron around the entire filter. My water was fine before I shocked my well. What do I do???

What does it mean to "shock" your well?
Here we have manganese and iron, it accumulates on the well sides, pipes and wiring as an orange floculate. If you rile it up it can take a long time to settle back down.
A while back they seismic tested [ with small explosive charges] for natural gas formations on the far side of this section and my water was dingy for a month or so.
Generally "shocking" involves
Generally "shocking" involves pouring chlorine bleach (or something stronger) down the well to disinfect it. Often used to eliminate the odor caused by iron-eating bacteria, in addition to being used to disinfect a well that has been contaminated by flooding, etc.
The problem is that if the iron-eating bacteria are killed the iron may come out in a relatively insoluable form instead.
"shocking"
Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping "shocking your well" might be more racy, like the tales of people dynamiting to increase flow.
Actually I have heard of people putting bleach in their wells here in hillbilly land but they call it "disinfecting the well".Go figure.
Chlorine reacts with the iron in the water (which is typically
not visible) and causes precipitation. Depending on the amount of iron in the water and the amount of chlorine added for shocking, the problem may clear up on its own in a fairly short time.
