Is it possible?

PeteDraganic | Posted in Tools for Home Building on January 28, 2009 05:19am

I need to know if a guy goes into a store that sells tools, to get just one simple thing, if he can leave without buying something else.

I made three trips to the “store” for things I needed on a job today and not once was I able to leave with just the stuff I needed.

Wear a thick rubber band around your wrist and carry a note. When ever you stop to look at anything not on your list pop the rubber band hard.

May not work, may take several trips and added rubber bands. Put them around your forehead, neck or jollies eventually you'll find a spot that will deter you from deviating from the list.

Thanks aren't neccessarry just trying to help a brother out.

My first trip involved $3.85 of neccessities and $27 worth of other stuff I couldn't live without.

Just before I was about to have back surgery - and in the worst pain - I liked to hold my little 14.4 drill and pull the trigger.  It somehow calmed the pain - and my nerves - a bit.

My wife just stared at me and wondered if she had made the correct decision on who she married.

I also think it's a bit weird looking back on it, but it worked for me, and I was willing to do about anything to get any type of relief.

I spend most of my weekends down in my basement shop, where I am currently building kitchen cabinets.  My wife NEVER goes down there.  Not that I told her not to, but she just doesn't.  Last weekend I was milling lumber for the door frames, and had the planer and dust collector running, and she came down for the first time in probably two years to tell me she was going out to run errands.  You should have seen the look on her face as she was looking around all the fun stuff I've been sneaking through the basement door!  Bag of nails?  Hmmm... That new Milwaukee miter saw looks real shiny!

    "Forty bucks a day ... "

That's what my budy Joe has been telling me "it takes to leave the house".

Says no matter what ... you leave the house ... yer gonna spend $40.

Joe smokes and is a coffee drinker ... so his numbers are a bit higher than mine.

but more times than not ... $40/day just to walk out the door.

I would wager that Farm stores are even MORE dangerous than Hardware stores. There is ALWAYS something on a farm that needs fixing or is missing a part....

Actually, you were saving future trips. Just because you didn't need it then doesn't mean you won't need it later.

yesterday I needed a box of nails

      and some o- rings

      and evidently an air compressor

my wife said  "why did you buy an air compressor?"

      "it has wheels."

"uh huh- don't you already have an air compressor?"

"three- well four if you count this one."

      "why wouldn't it count?"

" it is part of my strategic tool reserve-only for emergencies...  really shouldn't count it- it isn't for everyday"

major rolling of her eyes and exasperated sigh

      "did you see the wheels?"
