ponytl | Posted in Tools for Home Building on August 10, 2008 08:13am

http://memphis.craigslist.org/tls/783204677.html  I don’t know the real value so i don’t know if it’s a great deal (the kind i prefer) but i would like to have a better table saw… so if you guys say it’s a must buy… i’ll make the 3hr round trip drive for it…

Not that great of a deal, but good

    Here are some recon Unisaws.

Delta/PC factory warehouse is in TN and I would think that you could find some freight damaged stuff cheap.

Ok buy but not great .
I was in a desperate need of a table saw a few years back and picked up the Jet version of the same unit. Mine came with what is listed, extended table kit and the mobile base for the extended table, built in Dewalt router also included .
    Paid $1000.
It does what I need but is no match for the full 3-5 hp. cabinet shop saw. Unless you are desperate I would wait and see what else shows up . or have Julian Tracy start looking he seems to find a huge number of good scores in the MI area.

It'd be a solid buy at $550 - 600, - $700 only if you were just about to buy one new imo.I've seen plenty of Unisaws as equipped for $800-1100 and that'd be the last saw you'd ever buy.One tip if you find a used PM66 - Those run about $1100-1400 used, but if you find one, there's a good chance it'll have the polished Blanchard top and Baldor motor. New, both those items are extra cost - about + $5-600 for both. Makes a used PM66 even a better value then it might at first seem. Good luck,Julian

Back in the seventies when I was 1/2 owner in a cabinet shop that is what we had. Top of line PM 66 with factory table extensions. I prefer the PM over the Unisaw personally.
What I really wish I hadn't sold was the PM 5 HP 24" planer with sharpening attachment. Now that was a nice tool. Everything was 3 phase though and I had no place to take it I could use it.

I've got a 3ph 12" Northfield jointer in a 1ph shop... it's not that big a deal to rig a converter out of another 3ph motor and a washing machine motor... used 3ph motors are cheap, nobody wants 'em.and, that's not a great deal on that particular table saw, I'd keep looking Now you see this one-eyed midget

          Shouting the word "NOW"

And you say, "For what reason?"

          And he says, "How?"

And you say, "What does this mean?"

And he screams back, "You're a cow

          Give me some milk

          Or else go home"

Yea, I know that now but didn't then.

I was doing some hunting around on CL and kept coming up with not being able to search broader areas at one time.

Each time would be for a state and a town or there abouts.

But I found this pretty good tool.

      http://www.motiont.com/craigslistreader.aspx

It took a little ? putzing but it does a pretty good job once you get it going.

You can control the search parameters pretty good.

I've been on a mac since 1999 and have NEVER used any anti-virus software. 5 year old computer boots up in 50 sec and shuts down in 35 sec.None of the annoying sluggishness from the anti spyware programs doing their thing at startup/bootdown/during the day.If that's not reason enough to own a Mac, I don't know what is.JT

Here's a Unisaw on the Detroit area CL. Won't last long - looks to be a brand new unit with 50" unifence + mobile base.Asking $900:http://detroit.craigslist.org/tls/792628736.htmlWhy in the world anyone would buy something like this new, I don't understand...They're out there - just got to keep your eyes open.Julian

i'm so glad thats 1000 miles away,if not i'd have to go sell blood tommorrow.larryif a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?

          4. JulianTracy | Aug 12, 2008 06:32am | #19

2nd one in the last week or so. Last one was about 10 years old and came with the same 50" fence/mobile base + had a complete overhead Delta Uniguard on it - all like brand new for about $900 or so.JT

  4. Novy | Aug 11, 2008 06:20am | #8

The unisaw is my staple.......... You can't beat the fence and I hear that they are not making them anymore. I have 2. Mine weighs 625#.

Look like a nice unit. One of the problems with this saw is how the guard mounts, takes time to install and can be tough to line up. This saw looks near new and could be worth the money. You don't need 5hp to drive a saw blade, sharp blade is whats needed and is safer to.

There's more to a saw than power.

  6. maverick | Aug 11, 2008 10:54pm | #12

2 hp is a little underpowered. I have a 3 hp unisaw. its a great saw but there are times when I wish it had 5hp

  7. jc21 | Aug 12, 2008 05:11am | #17

imho priced too high especially in this market for what amounts to the guts of their contractor saw stuffed in a cabinet. It's not a bad saw but for about the same or a wee bit more $ you could have a genuine Unisaw.

Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.
