My rambling ranch house is in desparate need of an entry cover. It has a long (30′) walk from the driveway with no cover except about a foot at the door (which is also at a roof valley where each side of the valley ends in a different height). I like the looks of the entry featured on p. 91 in issue #142 (by Gerry Copeland).
However, I noticed that the actual construction differs from the model (which looked like it was trying to mimic the same details as the posts inside the house). I was wondering if there was a structural reason to change the cant of the posts on the entry or if it was just for looks…
Thanks,
Greg.

I used to build models - changing them time after time. The final results were always different.
The vertical posts on the model have a dated look. I think I remember seeing something like that on an old covered walkway at an elementary school. The final look does carry over to the interior - or is it the other way around?
