With the help of a BTer, I figured out how to make my attach button work.
Pics are the same, I hit the attach button twice.
This is one of the homes we built in Sugar Land, TX.
For others who may be having the same trouble, try holding down the control key while clicking the attach button.

Good for ya.
Now D/L Irfanview and be kind to those on tin cans and strings. With that you can resize a pic to tolerable uploading speeds.
Pretty simple program to use. And FREEBIE!

Hey now that I've got Irfanview... everything opens with it--pics videos whatever...
How and where do I shut that off?
"Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing..."
You're looking for something called File Associations but it may not be described as such. It's usually found (not an infranview guy) under [tools][options] and then somewhere in there. Uncheck the boxes for the file types you don't want it opening with.
Better yet go to the place you want to see the pics and find the [tools][options] and re-check the preferred boxes.
It doesn't hurt to hunt around but you can also search for File Association in the Help section of the application.
bingo.
Thanks."Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing..."
Looks nice. I resized it so you don't have to listen to people complain. How many square feet?
Here is a resize that will fit on screen and not take too long to download.View ImageAs Sphere said, Irfanview is easy to use and cheap. Resize to 640x480 and save at about 70%, you can take a 254kb file and turn it in to 50kb easily.

Thanks Jon. I did download Irfanview as suggested by Sphere, but time constraints with my 7 years olds roller skating birthday party yesterday prevented me from doing anything.
BT is great. thanks for the resize. I used to suffer with dial-up, but now use satillite. A service called Wildblue http://www.wildblue.com. It is less expensive that DirectWay for equipment and monthly, and they are offering free install.
Those out here in the coutry with me and using DirectWay say there is no loss when the try my Wildblue.
Jon,What I don't understand is when I dowmload my pics, they are 640x480 but when I load them here they say anywhere from 100-300KBThis picture is 640x480.Is it to big when you open it?Joe Carola
Perfect here at todays high of 24,600. about 5 seconds from click to full viewing. Don't bother changing.

There is more information in a picture file than just the number of pixels, Joe.When you open yoiur resize file box, one of the choices you look it ios number of pixels per inch in the display. I usually use 72 dpi. If you set a certaain picture size based on pixels as you said, the DPI( dots per inch) will effect the overall seen size.then there is the file size. A photo with more colours will be a larger file than one with fewer. I noticed this when adjusting my gamma. By backing it down, or by lowering brightness, or contrast, I almost always make the file size smaller, when the restof the parameeters stay the same. I believe the way the program makes the adjustment is to take selected information out of the photo which would leave the file of information stored to be less. The file format is also important. Most everybody uses jpegs for this online stufff. It is a compression format. BTMP is the bitmap format that maps every pixel on the screen so it is a larger file for the same viewed picture. JPEG condenses by telling it "OK - the next fifteen pixels in theis picture line are all fiant blue" instead of repeateing faint blue fifteen timesThat can still make a CAD type drawing fairly larger in file size - I mention that because you do a lot of sketches. if You can save as GIF, that seems a more efficient comnpression format for line drawings for some reason

here is another peek after a couple minutes with Irfanview. Your's was fine first time though

Now I took Framer's same photo from his post and ran it thru Irfanview without touching the sizing numbers, just the 'options' 'set file association' then save as, and got this smaller KB size.
What's with that?

Good question

You mentioned saving a JPEG but didn't mention the quality you saved at. There is always a % quality box on the save as page. I think you unwittingly saved at 70%(or something) and threw away some detail from the image. I'm betting if you really looked carefully your picture is a little fuzzy compared to framer's.
Another possibility is throwing away color detail, bit depth. Somewhere there is a setting to select 256 colors to 15.6 colors. That may have been reduced which would make subtle changes in shades less subtle. I wouldn't think that change would happen automatically though.
The GIF format is nice because it doesn't lose any information and makes a similar filesize. However, i think its limited to only 256 colors though.

ah, one might say 'and so the dot thickens'.

Having used IView since I got here, I don't do anything other than reset to 480x640 from my camera..I never messed wid the other stuff.
On my screen, it sometimes gets grainy ( bad photo?) and my Lap Top 'previews' as well as the D/T..
I have never had an issue where some one would intentionally say any thing 'cept for my first posts (b4 Iview) were too large.
If that helps anyone.

Hey! No fair !Naive but refreshing !
I couldn't remember such an option in my irfanview, so I checked. There is nothing like that comes up in save or in save as.when you manipulate the image under resize, there is a check off that allows you to set a precentage to change iot to, but then you still have to do a final save or save as

really?!?
I haven't used irfanview since I'm living in a mac world. Graphic converter is the shareware standard there. The various image editing/converter programs I've used always has a % quality option on the save as page when saving a JPG.
>manipulate the image under resize
no this % option would only be when saving.
You could experiment with a clear crisp picture and save a JPEG repeatedly and compare the image and file size it to the original.
splat
The picture looked like a good size on my screen, very clean framing too.
Jon,
How do you get a picture to be displayed without having to go back and copy it in with the telltale edit. I can't do it at all with Firefox, but I can with IE, but I still have to "edit". Hope I'm making sense.
If you open the picture with another program, you can copy and paste from there.--------------------------
It's only satisfying if you eat it.
Are you saying you can copy and paste a photo directly to a BT post from another program without making it an attachment?
'Nemo me impune lacesset'No one will provoke me with impunity

You can do it off the net also. Point at the pic, and right click. Copy and paste.

I have no idea. It always seems to work for me. Do you have the link to the picture? Let me give it a try.--------------------------

I figured it out. If you are copying something from your email it won't work.
When you cut and paste it doesn't actually copy the picture. It creates a hyper link using HTML code to the image on the internet. A big I THINK on the end of this.--------------------------

I suppose that makes sense.
The one I tried in the other thread was from the email.
These here were off the net.
'cept the last was an attachment.

With firefox you first must click the box at the bottom that says "check here if HTML tags are in this message"Then attach your file in the regular manner.Click "preview" when your file appears on the main posting screen and open the link in a new tab.Right click on the picture and select "copy link location:.Return to the message and add the link location in the following text: {img src="your copied link location here"} but substitue the bracket type above the comma for the "{" type brackets. When you post the pic should appear in the message body.Luka taught me how to do this and some other HTML tips hereView Image

Jon, I followed your instructions but it still is not working.see: http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=68792.54Where does thie text go with the "copy image location". Do I just type it in to the message body or does it have to be inserted somewhere specifically.
TG,Sorry for my poor instructions.I embedded the pic here:
http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=68792.61I think your only problem is you used the "{" brackets instead of the "<" brackets. The reason I use the "{" brackets in my example is that since I had the "HTML tags..." box checked every time I used a "<" it would not show on screen because they're hidden HTML commands.I believe that if you copy your HTML in http://forums.taunton.com/tp-breaktime/messages?msg=68792.54
and substitute the correct brackets you should be fine.

Yep, Sugar Land, TX southwest of Houston. Actually, Sugar Land and Houston have grown so much that they touch each other.
Sugar Land, listed as one of the top American cities where a lot of millionaires can be found, as my clients are for the posted picture project.
Wasn't one of Spielbergs early films called something or other Sugarland?
Sugarland express? Goldie Hawn was in it, but that is all I can remember (other than bumbling cops). jt8
