My house has T1-11 siding now and I am going to put up vinyl siding. I wanted to know the best way to install the J-channel around the windows and doors because they only stick out 1/2″. There is Mono caulking around them and it forms a cove to keep the channel from fitting tight. Also, should I use house wrap.

To prevent moisture buildup and improve performance, install a continuous air barrier—such as drywall or specialized membranes—under tongue-and-groove boards or other interior wall paneling.

I always caulk the perimeter of the window just before I install the vinyl J channel, so that the Mono is hidden. The channel is going to stick out past the frame,so you might have an edge to caulk after installation. I would strip the old caulk off with a chisel.Don't forget the drip cap on the top.I stopped using house wrap and went back to building paper.I felt it was creating a double vapour barrier.Only my opinion...
