Hey buddy. Haven’t heard much from you lately. Assume you have been busy. I just wondered how the kitchen deal worked out. Where you made the cold call with the designer and all. Any luck? DanT

I been here ... in and out.
Been busy ... been busy working ... and busy "staying" working!
right now .. booked solid on a "house fulla jobs" .... and just told a buddy if they're ready for a new kitchen so am I .... so I'm following thru on my efforts to overbook and kill myself to get some of last years debts paid off sooner than later.
Have a mountain of debt ... and still have hopes for a nice summer vacation ... so gotta work to kill myself if I want the time and have the money to take it off.
The kitchen guy ... still don't know how that'll shake out. Got some work from him right before xmas. A buddy of mine had already been working with them as their shop boy/punch list/run around guy. Told them I didn't want that position.
I helped my buddy do 2 weeks of work in their showroom, right when I was dead .. so the timing couldn't have been better. Since then, got called to bid 2 sets of prints, neither job sold 100% yet ... and the cab's would come directly from Germany .. so there's a 6 month lead time for the cabs alone. So ... haven't heard anything and really didn't expect to yet.
But ... I also thot I'd have had some more plans to bid starting just about this time.
So I'm not sure where I stand with them. I heard one of their lead designers is retiring, so I'm betting the owner has other things on his mind at the moment. I plan on sending off an email just to check in and see what's up.
Got a call back from anyther guy I cold called, not as high end ... but more jobs. He called to let me know they were a bit slower moving into spring than they'd have liked ... but I was still at the top of their list, right under their regular installers. That was a good sign ... at least I'm not out of mind there.
So at the moment ... I have a nice job where I'll have a place to go for a coupla months ... and I can also arrange time away to fit other jobs in. Good situation.
Gotta get back to working up numbers for my buddy's kitchen.
Plus ... got a call from a buddy near Columbus OH who just signed the deal on building what I hear is a great house just fulla trim. If we can finally swing it, I'm hoping to drive West and make some sawdust for a coupla weeks/months ...

Glad to hear you are busy and prosperous. And glad to here the kitchen deal panned out. If you wind up working in Columbus let me know as I am 45 minutes north. As you know on the road the food can get old. Home cooked meal is here for you when needed. DanT
Glad to hear you are busy and prosperous.
How about just busy and covering my a$$ instead?
Hopefully prosperous comes later in the year!
at elast this week I'll have a case of beer .... called a buddy to come quick and rebuild my customers sagging front porch ... spring has sprung and she's sudden;y in a big hurry to set the porch furniture out ... never mind I'm knee deep in trimming the upstairs for the next 2 weeks or so .... so I decided to call in reinforcements, share some work with a buddy and keep the customer one step ahead of happy.
besides ... I can do without digging a coupla holes under a porch and rolling around in the mud for a coupla days ...
So ... our standard "kickback" ..... a case of beer.
He'd better have it on Fri!
we were just talking today ... me and him ... told him he may have just inherited the front of the house ... there's more work to be done after the structural stuff is taken care of .... more work for him ... more beer for me.
If I was a real business man I'd actually add some percent on top of his price ... but for little stuff like this ... just as easy to have him go directly thru the customer.
For some reason, I keep trying to save this lady money?
hopefully my reasoning is so there's more for me to use to build her dream kitchen?
... widows with nice old houses in need of love(the house, not the widow) ... that's my weak spot. Feel bad for the lady and the house!
