Roughly every couple weeks I check out the JLC message boards. However when I tried to access the site today (I have it book marked) I couldn’t get the page, my browser said URL unknown.
Anybody been over there recently? Can you post the URL your using?
Thanks
Scott R.

They revamped the whole website and all of the articles are not pay or subscriptions. But the forums are still free.

That still might be changing or dyamic. But you can go to jlconline.com and the click on the forums button.
*Publisher, Hanley-Wood, which also owns Remodeling Magazine and Remodeling Online, bought JLC about a year or so ago, so they will also be combining all of the excellent forum discussions from RO into the new JLC format forums as archives during this month.
*Sonny, Your not allowed to say excellent forum discussions about them here..traitor....lol
*Thanks for the link!In my first attempts to maneuver through the re-vamped JLC site, it felt like I was running in circles. Before I finally got to the business board it's quite apparent not much is available unless you sign up for the $99 "charter" membership. For the modest amount that I used the site in the past I can't justify any cost.Anybody sign up for the on-line membership yet? Scott R.
*Hey, everything is there for non-subscribers but the references to past articles. Yeah, I think I shall sign up as many of the articles are useful and they are easily accessed. I wonder how long many of the "free" sites that we have grown used to will remain. I suspect that as the money runs out, we will all pay for information instead of getting it free. It has been a nice ride while it lasted, and those of us who use the net have gotten a great return out of all the money spent by people trying to loose a little on each hit and make it up on volume.MDF_User
*See "pony up" post in Tavern. (it was on the main board but moved)
*Scott they have some bugs over there, that was probablem the problem.
*Scott, you were not at the right place. You were at David Lupberger's hot spot, who sells a system called: "Business Systems." On that page you should have clicked on per #3 below.1. http://www.jlconline.com2. Click on "Forums" at the top3. Click on "Business Strategies" in the left under the heading "Peer To Peer."And your in. Then bookmark it.
*Hi All,EVERYTHING, I repeat, EVERYTHING that was available for free on the old JLC site is still there and still free. The difference is that when you do a site search now you'll also get a list of the articles contained on the JLC CD ROM V that weren't free or available on the other site, but which are now displayed and reprints can be obtained for a fee. If one signs up as a member of the new JLCOnline Plus for the $99. fee, the JLC CD ROM V is included in the price. In other words, you essentially purchase the CD, but have the added advantage of reaching the CD content from any computer with internet access when you don't have your own computer or CD nearby. There is no limit on the number of times you can download or print from the site. Now, think what a complete set of every back issue of either FHB or JLC would cost you, how much room that would take up and how difficult it is to find information in print copies. How much of a pain it is to get copies made, etc.. Compare that to the $99. cost of a single CD set and membership and it's not that bad - about $.27 a day. Even for folks over here at FHB, that is a pretty good deal. If you spend a significant amount of time every year researching projects, something like this can be pretty helpful.ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!!Mike O'HandleyJLConline Moderator
*!!!!!!!!!!!!SPAM!!!!!!!!LOL
*not spam - defense of an idea that had been attacked is the way I read it.
*I'd lean towards calling it spam. But I guess the final decision is up to Andy, now that he's a big shot...........(-:
*It's only spam if he keeps coming back and posting it again and again. As it stands, it is a post that addresses the concerns stated in many prior posts. Certainly the point could have been made with a bit less "selling", but if it isn't repeated I would think it could stay.Of course, if I'm Taunton and JLC is the competition, then maybe....Rich Beckman
*That's why I added LOL at the bottom.
*It doesn't appear to me that Taunton and JLC are in competition, really.
*Ken,You're right. JLC can't compete.
*Andy sent him an email and his explination was that he was trying to explain what it was.How do I know? There is a thread on his forum at JLC.
*Hi Folks,You know, I've been a subscriber to FWW and FHB for a lot more years than I've known JLC existed. I was simply trying to explain, as a fellow FHB subscriber, how the new features compared to the old. There was nothing sinister meant and I wasn't trying to plug JLC. Just for clarification purposes - JLC moderators are volunteers. We are not paid for our time and we have no agenda to push.Andy was very cordial in his email and it was settled. End of story.By the way. In the off chance that one of you should visit my forum, you'll find that even should I recognize your name from Breaktime I won't question your motives for doing so.ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!!Mike O'HandleyFellow long-time FHB subscriber(Oh yes - And Building Science Moderator - JLC Online)
*My take was that Mike was trying to clear up a muddy situation. Yes, JLC and FHB compete for construction articles. We also complement each other, with their secondary focus on business and ours on design. The only change I asked of Mike was to add "JLConline moderator" after his name, which he did happily.Andy
*> EVERYTHING, I repeat, EVERYTHING that was available for free on the old JLC site is still there and still free.Mike, thank for clearing that up! When I visited the web site after the changes just about every maneuver I made took me a page to promote the membership, I felt as though I was in a fun house maze of mirrors. It may just have been a glitch of the moment, but it gave me the impression that the site was mostly for members only. The meat of what I like about the JLC board is back into my bookmarks and everything is fine again.Scott R.
