Stocks are plummeting, gas prices are soaring — we need a break!
We’re revisiting the topic of canine construction comrades this week at www.finehomebuilding.com, and we’d like to invite you to paws long enough to post photos of your furry helpers at work.

I saw this one day.
The electrician has his dog with him one day on the 2nd floor, and he told the dog to get his Phillips screwdriver. The dog promptly went down stair to his truck the get the screwdriver and brought it up to him. The electrician yelled at the dog and told him it was the wrong one, so the dog went back to the truck and got the other one.
Roxie, a fine looking girl. Keeps the riff raff off the job
is she a wienmeranner? not sure if I spelled that correctly
yeah, I Dont even try spelling it. She'll sit, I mean, stand there and watch you cut, nail and sometimes try to get out on the roof. Just like that lead guy i didnt care for much. No, Roxie, no.
A co-worker has 2 pure breads, the female just popped out 11 of little ones, I was going to take one, then decided not too, then I saw the pups the other day...
so now I'm thinking I just gotta have one... and my buddy made a good point... their coats match my truck color perfectly...
BEWARE of Weimaraners. Being an all around hunting dog, they can be a hand full. Lots of energy that has to be pacified.
We rescued Roxie from a friend of a friends parents. Locked her up for two years in the back yard and then decided they couldn't handle her. She wasn't train to do anything. Pee and poop in the house ( no more), jump out screen windows ( still).
Love her. Smart and extremely loyal.Loves water, hates to be alone. Think if you could get a puppy and spend lots and lots of time with it, great dog you'll have.
yeah, thanks for talking me out of it again... I know it's not the best choice, but they're so damn cute..
and they match my truck..
damn, oh well..
here is my main buddy..Eddy is a pound pup too..likes to watch snakes in the trees and try to tell me, they are there..it worked today.."cow sucker" two feet long..
#3 today...seems like snakes are having a ball with the nesting birds..

charlotte- my favorite dog ever
aussie- blue merle
used to take her everywhere.
we'd go to a job site and she was off-
i'd see her again at three.
if she didn't make it i'd come back at six and lower the window and sure enough i'd have a dog. country city- didn't matter.
my brother has her now cause she needed more space than we have to offer.
she never met a fence she couldn't jump.
pulled up to a job one fine november day and opened the door and char was off like a bullet- up the hill into the trees and i heard a buck snort!
finest race you ever saw- my little dog a half step ahead of a rutting eight pointer, she hooked around a tree and that stud hooked his rack into the ground and stood on end- rolled to his feet and got really p!ssed.
charlotte was behind him and snapped at his backside and that buck took off for the woods.
everyday i wish i still had her.
if we weren't going to work she would hang around for a bit and then head for town.
she was very social- you could mostly find her laying outside the local cafe.
anyway- hope i can post her pic
I don't have a dog but I'm going to post a pic of this one, some here have had the pleasure of meeting her. Her name is Oreo.
This dog belong to Imerc, probably the most well behaved girl I have ever meet.
We(imerc and I) rode around the Mts near Colorado Springs and that dog was the best. Well mannered, obedient, and very smart, I'm sure when nobodies around she talks to Imerc.
Doug
>> Well mannered, obedient,
Got me to do a double take! For a moment there I thought you were saying that about IMERC!
(Sorry, Big M! Just couldn't resist...) ; )
And yes, Oreo is a very fine dog and IMERC is a very fine dog trainer! You're unique! Just like everyone else! Scott Adams
I had to do a double take too....
Oreo yes... Me? Not a chance...

I was hoping Oreo would show up soon. I didn't get to spend much time with her when I was in Colorado last summer but I'll have to agree, she was a sweetheart.Kevin Halliburton

Okay I know, she's more like a small pony. When we got her from the pound, the attendant wrote down feline as her race, so we're still pretty confused, but at 130lbs, quess we got our money's worth<G> Can you tell, she likes building with logs? Don't worry, we can fix that later!
Billy, yer so silly, post the dang pic! Don't worry, we can fix that later!
that dog looks big and mean..
bet she's a real sweet heart though...
Big all right, but mean only if you consider being licked to death mean. She's helped guys break in our house<G> She's making me post another pic of her ,sez the last one made her look fat ;-0 Don't worry, we can fix that later!
This is Sophie. She's half Irish Wolfhound and half Shepard.
why do I get the impression that we were to email FHB with the pics?? And not posthere?
any takers?
edit to add: I just reread the first offer..the link is there but it said to post..neither here nor there..go figgure

Imagine being on the jobsite having to entertain this pooch all day.
a cat astrophe in the making!
Only fair to let you know that Taunton can not be responsible for the safety of cats whose photos are posted in a dog thread. My own husky -- anybody want to hire a freelance excavator? -- would pounce in a heartbeat. Ruth DobsevageTaunton New Media
hey hack looks like your inspector approves of your work....cute cat" Looks good from my house!!"
Here's my partner, Gunny. He thinks he's the foreman except on really cold days when he won't get out of the truck.
Mark
here's a couple of my best friend Bailey
These are my "company dogs". They keep me company all day. They are always ready to help at any time. Helper doggies from left to right are "Flash", the lead dog "Otto" the wiggle dog with the rope in his mouth and "Tempo" the princess. The next pic is my team in action with "Streak" in the lead.
Here is our husky "helper". No wonder my tools seem to walk off the job...
Here's my contribution. Taken just as the last things were being moved out before the demolition began. No one was going to get this carpet....... unless they had a treat.
Oreo , look like she be fun to have around.
This Oreo? The paint brush...
Fresh mud, paint, PL Premium.... There's Oreo... Had to cut her loose from the floor after she took a nap in some PL....

she just looks like a fun dog.
About every hour or so Porter will come in and check on me, see if I need him to hold the other end of something. He's really good at finding the shadiest spot in the yard to take a lunch break.

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to share some pics of our job site pooch. At the time these photos were taken he was about 3 or 4 months old. As you can see he has a little personality on him! His name is Major...a.k.a. "Major the Mutt"
By the way, we are new to this site so, if you'd like to get to know a little about us visit http://www.jjordanbuilders.com Thanks, and have a great day!
That shot of your dog sleeping on the bags tells it all "Mans best friend"
Great picture!
"Rather be a hammer than a nail"
Bob
Thanks!
We got a real kick out of your signature, "rather be a hammer then a nail," ....too funny.
Samantha
P.S. love your website.....where do you get your inspiration for your deck designs? The first picture under decks absolutely blew us away.....we are going to soon be starting on our own dream home located in Oregon....we want that deck on our house!!! Kudos on your website.
Samantha
Thank you for visiting the site and the complements Samantha.
I get my inspiration from some fragmented piece of art floating around between my ears I guess. I don't know exactly where it comes from.
I do know that I qualify each of my customers by asking them how they want to use their deck.
Where will you dine? Where will you lounge? Where would you BBQ? Do you entertain ALOT?
Then I just sit down with My 3D cad program and design them a deck that fits their Terrane, taste, and budget.
"Rather be a hammer than a nail"
Bob
P.S. I guess I'll have to give some credit for my designs to my little helper...."Rather be a hammer than a nail"

Looks very nosey and camera shy too..............:-)"Rather be a hammer than a nail"

Here's a customer's "crown" dog. Watched intently, and kept a close eye on the nail gun. Nice dog, nice owners.Remodeling Contractor just outside the Glass City.

That is truly the pussyest lookin' dog I have ever seen..lol
Nice looking pup there.
I went to your web site, very nice work but I think you need to pay your help a little more, doesn't seem like any of them can afford tee-shirts!
Welcome to BT
Doug
Thanks for the welcoming!
We refuse to pay the help enough, that way they can't afford to quit us *grin*
By the way, the big gorilla in the photo's is the owner.
Samantha
I seen a couple of "gorillas", don't look like any meals are being missed! maybe their priorities are food over clothing!
Doug
you pegged Jon for sure.....I learned a long time ago the way to his heart is through his stomach *grin*
Samantha
Here is my best helper. He don't do much, but he is good at it. His name is Studly, but he isn't so much any more. He is old and is missing important parts, he lost them by accident, when in the wrong yard doing what studs do.
Hope you don't mind....

"Now you didn't have to go and do that..."
I didn't do it. the owner of the cute little thing my dog was servising did it. This happened out in Mandan, ND. Lots of ranchers out there. Took a rubber band for fixing sheep and installed it on my dog. These bands are so small you couldn't put it over you little finger without the special tool. I didn't notice what had happened for 3 or 4 days. Studly was licking himself and didn't smell to good. I rolled him over and the boys were as white as a sheet of paper. The Vet had to do 3 hours of surgery to fix him and clean up all the infection. The vet said they would have fallen off in about one more day, then he would have bleed to death. Studly doesn't miss them, but I just about had to rename him.
saw this dawg sitting in a work van the other day. Whadayathink .. Chief of Security ?
Thinks he's Mr Cool anyway ! Thinks he's Bad !
Actually, I'm suprised these pics aren't all blured at the rate this pooches' tail was going as I approached the van !
.
geeze .. 800 pixels wide is a bit big. What's a good size for posting here ?
Here they are again at 500 wide. Too good for all the dialuppers to miss !
I meant delete yur post....
Sorry about what had happened to Studly... Maybe like medicine is in order...
Did you get you some Irfanview??

Neighbor "loaned" me a barn dog... The puppie's owner passed on a bit ago and they thought the little girl need a better home..
So far the selected names are ... Mutt, Hairball, Fleabait, Dog, Garbage Disposal, Rambucious, Slop and a few others..
Her favorite place to lay down is a sloppy mud puddle.... The sloppier the better... Then there is the diving into and rolling around in some really wish you wouldn't do that "stuff."
She does well on the job... Now to get her to stay out of the DW mud...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!
She's a good looking dog. I always heard that rolling around in cow dung was a natural trait for herd dogs. Helps mask their scent supposedly.
Is this a long term loan?Kevin Halliburton
"The Greek comic poets, also, divided their plays into parts by introducing a choral song, ... they relived the actor's speeches by such intermissions." Vitruvious, (Book V)
Yup...
But she ain't riding in the truck...

Ah well, when you get done training her she'll likely be driving her own. <G>
Lucky dog...
I'll toss a couple of names in the hat if you're passing one around.
"Akimbo" (bent legs) or "Stark" (contrast of black and white).
"Riot" might be more fitting though- Sounds like she is already raising quite a stink.Kevin Halliburton
"The Greek comic poets, also, divided their plays into parts by introducing a choral song, ... they relived the actor's speeches by such intermissions." Vitruvious, (Book V)
it looks like oreo II.
10 times the hair. a little smaller and more white....
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!
She's a sweetheart! And other dogs probably think she smells great...
So here is my suggestion: Civet
If that doesn't work: Pachouli, Sweet Cicely, Cedar or Musky
Put a positive spin on it. She looks like she needs some good lovin'
The damn jobsite cats are taking over. Here's our boy Satchmo doing his job stalking pigeons. Better start posting pictures of your dogs or I'll just keep posting more pictures of mine to stay ahead of the jobsite cats. LOL
regards
Coco has had a good run as a work companion. :) She'll be 13 this month.
As she has progressed in years, she has really increased her skills. She could retrieve and fetch (even if you dropped something into the waters of Lake Michigan), she obeys hand signals (especially handy now that her hearing isn't so swell), and she is friend to all unless you are about to bust onto the scene without a proper introduction. A well-behaved sweet thing.
Now she is our Number 1 Doorstop (she can do that all day) and cleans up for us after lunch. She is also fond of guarding the fridge.
There is really nothing like a real good dog.

Here's the latest addition to our team. She's only 5 mos old, so she's a helper in training. And boy does she need training. But with any luck my wife will be able to bring her to our office, once she stops jumping on strangers.
Before I returned to graduate school, I worked in a small and very dog friendly architecture firm in the Minneapolis area. Dakota was allowed to come with me to work on the days that we had obediance training. After about a month of his companionship three times a week and the award of his obediance school diploma, I made the big mistake of leaving him at home the next day. As soon as I stepped into the office I was told, in no uncertain terms, that I was not allowed to come to work anymore unless Dakota accompanied me! Dakota soon earned the status of "official office dog" and was even awarded the opportunity to appear on the firm's website. Scroll to the bottom of http://www.charleslevinarchitects.com/whoweare.html to see his image.
Since returning to grad school, Dakota has decided to take his job as "doggy" weight for my drawings very seriously.

*laughs* yes, he certainly is paper trained. He did that one all by himself too - no direction or incentives from me.
How do I upload a photo of the flying redhead?

Click on "Reply", then hit the ATTACH FILES button below the reply box and follow the prompts. Sometimes you have to be a little patient and wait for things to happen. If you need more help than that, pls. let me know.
This is what my job dog does at lunch.

I think it's uploaded this time.

Great photo -- I'm sure my husky would like to be doing that right now instead of sweltering in our current New England demo of global warming.
Next time, you might want to resize your photos smaller for the folks who are on a dial-up connection.
That pic was huge. The folks on dial-up won't be able to see it (because it would take them 15 mins to download it). I resized it to a more download friendly size.
Great pic. That would have been a great one to have your camera set to take 3 or 4 in a row. Then we could have gotten the slow motion effect into the water.jt8

Rosie the red head is going warp speed after her favorite obsession, her tennis ball. Not bad for an 11 year old golden. Her best friend and tormentor "Peety" is on the other side of the dock, he is a 3 year old Border Collie and herd's Rosie back with the ball.
Thanks for not correcting me on croping the shot, I now know that. These were taken 2 weeks ago here on Nantucket, where we live.
Cheers,
