I am working on a pretty nice post and beam job right now and would like to build a obsite sign tat is a little nicer than the usual ones I stake in the ground. any ideas?

I'm just sayin'
Dang, I wish I had a photo of the signs the boss has made up for our current restoration project. They are exceptional. He's really outdone himself - the man loves his signs.
Anyways, we normally put in a couple posts, be it 4x4 or 6x6, depending on how impressive the sign must be. The signs themselves are made of cedar (painted), and the legs of the sign are boxed posts made of 1x material that slip over the solid PT posts. The legs typically have flutes or some other detail.
The sign itself is just a cedar frame that holds a printed panel, with varying levels of detail. Most of the signs have crown along the top.
Although we have a variety of these signs, they have a very long lifespan and get used at any number of sites before retirement. I will add that they are very heavy and large. Transportation, storage and installation are not trivial.
But you can't argue with the result. Unless you want your sign to look like an afterthought, it really needs to be significantly large.
Edit: I forgot to add that we just cut off the PT posts below grade once we're done with the sign.
