Jumper Duct or Transfer Grilles?!?
I have a central return in my 2nd floor hallway. I am planning on putting either jumper ducts or transfer grills from the bedrooms to the hallway.
I wanted to run dedicated returns in the attic to each room, but was talked out of it because of problems with ductwork in unconditioned attics.
Can I assume then that jumper ducts in the attic are also a bad idea? I like the idea of the jumpers better than the transfer grills for aesthetics and airflow capabilities. See picture of jumper duct if needed.
Thanks!

I live in the "Deep South"...most all second floor hvac systems have ALL the ductwork (insulated of course) in the attic, as do single level houses built on slab. Your diagram suggests the jumpers are "flex" which includes the insulation. I believe flex is now available with R-8 values.
Still, there is some heat gain/loss to consider which is not my primary area of expertise, so:
