Juno or Halo recessed lights–which one

Firewoodmaker | Posted in General Discussion on December 28, 2005 11:14am

Going to add some drop(recessed ) lights in our family room. I have heard of Halo since both BORGs carried them until this year when Lowes switched to Juno lighting.

For those who have experience with these is one brand better than the other?

    both about equal......... I never liked junos installation brackets, they seemed flimsy, but they work .......IMO
    ...also be sure to buy your trims when you buy the cans, especially if you get something "different" , unless there is an Elec supply house in your area.

    BORG???

      Thanks,

      The juno brackets seemed flimsey to me too, some seemed to have loose/broken welds at the store (maybe they were drop-kicked by some 8 year old) but they did not appear as rugged as the Halo's.

      I was just concerned since I bought three small recessed fixtures from Loewes (Catalina I think) that were to give spot lighting to a countertop and the electrical connection box basically broke apart when to removed a knockout. Really cheaply made. In addition, the electrical connections were right on the top of the  housing. Semmed compact at teh time, but unecessary heat and electric wiring due to box lacement seamed a poor choice.

      I think I'll lean toward Halo, both because of your confirming comment and its been a "standard" for so long...

      Thanks again,

      Stan

      I can answer this for the original poster, I think.

      BORG = BIG BOX... If you are a next gen fan you will rember that the borg traveled about in a big qube ( box )..... "restance is futile".

        cripes.... I'm gettin old...........haahahahey waitaminit....wasn't that BABE 7+9 a BORG ??????

      2. woodboocher | Dec 29, 2005 07:11am | #9

        Oh yea, big time Next Gen. 'qube' fan.......well maybe not so much a qube fan as I am fan of the box.  and no doubt 7of 9 has gotta be of the highest grade box, when it comes to grading BORG.  Who, in their right mind, would even consider resisting?!?! Moreover, what if the other 8 were identicle-twin siblings....woof.                                                   Moral-maybe.  but best restated as a mathmatical equation:

        Qube=box                                                                                                                   box=seven                                                                                                                   and seven=3-without the wait.

        Applied Integral Mathmatics + Quantum Horndog Theory

          I bet if you tried, you could make those letters even bigger----I lost my train of thought while I was reading it.......LOL

    juno = made in china

    halo = made in mexico

    pick your child labor.... chineese or mexican.

    I don't think there are any recessed lights manufactured in 1st world countries anymore.

    to me they seem more or less the same, I have chose juno as they cost just a little less at the supplier than halo but seem the same ( with the exception of the mounts being a little more flimsy.... on another note the juno ic cans are smaller than the halo units so that has come in handy on many occasions.

    Go to a supply house and get lightolier's.  http://www.lightolier.com  The big box lighting is, to be kind, extremely poor.

    I haven't use Juno but I just put 24 6" Halos in my new house and thought they were fine. Easy to install and they are working great. Got them at a Home Depot. They were relatively easy to wire also. I used the ones rated for insulation contact and they had the nails already in the brackets.

    If they are going in a ceiling that is thermally insulated (attic or roof above) look for some Energy Star rated cans.  Cans are notorious for leaking air.
