Gonna get stuck having to provide temporary heat in a framed, uncompleted home for part of the winter. Any thoughts on using kerosene salamanders rather than propane? Operating cost? Problems? Heat output? I have crawl space (5’6″ clear, with vents) work to do, and don’t relish propane fumes lying on the bottom. Kerosene seems a better choice there. Coming up into the living area, same questions. Any thoughts?

Provide plenty of ventilation with either type of heat.
Propane gas is heavier than air and will settle in the crawl space only if you have a leak at the source or in the line. Once burned there is less smell to contend with than kerosene.
Cost is only comparitive on a BTU/ gal. output bases.
I worked for a man once that almost killed his mother by trying to heat her home with kerosene heaters while he was adding an addition and remodeling it.
Ventilate, ventilate .......
