We are in the market for new kitchen cabinets for our kitchen which is being rebuilt. Our architect recommended Wode-Mode/Brookhaven.
Does anyone have any recommendations that are not as expensive?

I would have to agree with Ron. When I was looking for cabinets for my kitchen, I was looking everywhere from Home Depot Expo to the high end luxury kitchen places that did custom work. I was having a difficult time finding a product that I liked at a price that I could afford, until I was speaking with a friend who mentioned a friend of theirs who had for many years been a cabinet maker at one of the local custom builders who was thinking of going out on his own. He hasn't started his company officially, but is venturing into the market. His work is gorgeous and very affordable. I have exactly the cabinets that I want, in every way possible. I haven't had to make any concessions and it is much less expensive than the highly advertized other options. It is a little more work to find these types of people, but it is worth all the effort.
I would like to add that I had an architect do some small drawings for me to create the best layout possible and to design the cabinets based on photographs of cabinet designs that I loved. I know that many people are intimidated at the prospect of hiring an architect as they think it is a bit over the top for just one room, but the money that I spent on the architect was possibly the best money spent on the whole project. She was not very expensive and her designs completely changed the way the kitchen was arranged. Originally it was a dark depressing space that was extremely inefficient and now it is a dynamite organized exciting room that I can't wait to be completed. The completion date is now sometime in Feb.
ILO of a architech you could just go with a Certified Kitchen and bath designer. They are less expensive then a Architech. But are good.

I would disagree with you. I spoke with many "certified designers" before I found my architect. Most were affiliated with cabinet companies from whom they receive a percentage or other compensation and none were knowledgeable about the structure of a house nor were they interested in architectual integrity of the house. They just wanted to fill the rooms with cabinetry and call the job done. I was not impressed with them at all. Most were actually quite a bit MORE expensive than my architect.
Really hmmm. I havent found that to be the case. But I guess its like anything else got to watch what your doing.
