I am remodeling an older home (1941). It has a door between the kitchen and dining room that swings open when pushed and returns to the closed position through a spring mechanism built into the bottom of the door. I am trying to find out the corrrect name for this type dood, who made doors of this type, where parts may be purchased and if drawings/schematics are available anywhere.

Google for
"spring loaded hinges" OR "self closing hinges"
I got about 4300 hits.
I think that I know the type of dor that you mention, but I don't know the proper name for it.
It has pins that extend into the floor and upper jamb for the hinges. And the spring mechanism allows it to hold itself open in either direction, while still causing it to close (on springs) when not opened all the way.
Van Dyke's restoration hardware had them in the catalog I saw about a year ago. As I remember, they also have a web site.

Big catalog. They're in there and you can order the catalog via the website.
There's usually schematics in the catalog on this sort of hardware.
Knowledge is power, but only if applied in a timely fashion.
