In the last issue of Houses #211, on page 59 (upper right) and page 60/61 (center) they show an island with counter all the way around a raised center section with receptacles.
I really like this design and would like to incorporate it into to my kitchen plans, can anyone tell me if this is a custom built unit or could this be done with stock cabinetry?
I’m not a cabinet maker so I have a hard time envisioning how this would be built or assembled with stock cabinets to make the complete island.
Book suggestions, sketches or pictures of a similar assembly being built would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes, custom or stock (with embellishments.
You can get a good kitchen layout person to utilize Kraftmade for example (Diamond, Plain and Fancy..............), cabinets in a design that would complement what you see there.
Door style? probably not, but they do have some "craftsman" styles available.
No time to look for you (golf league), what have you done so far on your Kitchen Design Plans?
Island Plans
I'm only in the dream stage for the kitchen right now since I have to finish the rest of the bedrooms first, but I'm always looking for great ideas and I love the look of that island.
It's not so much the cabinet style as it is the raised section in the middle with the full counters all around. I guess I'm really looking for how the raised section with the receptacles would be built.
If I were to use stock cabinets, would you build a short 2X wall first for the wiring and plumbing and then put the cabinets around the wall or would you mount all the cabinets together with just a space for running the wiring and plumbing inside and then add the raised section on top of that?
The plan is to use quartz counter tops, so in this situation would the counter top get a rectangular hole in the middle and then be lowered over the raised section in the middle?
I seem to have a lot of questions for what looks to be a simple counter.
Well, size of the space you have to work with will tell the tale
In the pictures, the top seems to be a butcher block. With the proper mounting and floating clearances-the top would not split out off the corners of that raised space...........or, it was built on top of the counter, with just the electric runs drilled through=(probably the safest route.
With quartz, I imagine-but ask the fabber-that either way might work fine with no worries.
Yes, stock cabs can make up the depth. To give it the furniture look at the base, you can get either wall cabs or pay more for base cabs w/o a toe kick. Be forwarned, their furniture "feet" they charge a mint. I've used some stock molded toe kick covers like is pictured in the background of 60-61, not nearly as much an upcharge (per foot).
I'll try to find a picture of a furniture base looking island I did a while ago to give you an idea what can be done.
sorry, no find on a quick search.
But, you can do alot with custom work.
you also can do alot with custom "stock". Price it out, can't hurt.
