I always run into problems with pony walls in kitchens where bar tops sit on top of the pony wall directly above a kitchen countertop. The problem is that most people want a 40″-41″ high bar, but once you figure in space for the electrical outlets in the backsplash and the top plate of the pony wall and a 36″ high countertop I usually top out over 42″. I was thinking of switching to plywood for my top plate material to gain some room back and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this process?

maybe turn the electrical outlets horizontal
should gain at least a couple of inches
caulking is not a piece of trim
Turn the boxes horizontally & nail to underside of the wall top plate
