I’m looking to remodel my first kitchen.
Any suggestions on good books to help me through it? I looked at Taunton’s books, specifically the “for the pros by the pros”, but being a novice, I’m not sure if it’s the right book for me.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Sure it is. The only difference between the Taunton books and the ones from Popular Science and American Handyman and Better Homes & Gardens and Black & Decker and etc ... is that the Taunton books show the right way to do things. Well, that and the fact that they don't gloss over the problem areas.
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
Not to make a commercial for taunton but as far as the hands-on technical aspects of remodeling there are no better books. I'd just recommend you go to the bookstore and look over and compare books before buying them. Other publishers have great idea books as well but taunton has the best how to books.

Good point on using other books for ideas.

I highly recommend Sam Clark's "Remodeling a Kitchen" in the Build Like a Pro series. Strong on both thinking through a design and how to get it done, very thorough and understandable, well organized, loads of practical tips.Unlike some other home-improvement books I have that seem padded out, this one feels like it started fat and was filed down to a sharp edge.To be honest, I bought my (first) home a year ago and haven't gotten around to the kitchen yet... and this book is one reason why. Given the layout of my place the kitchen is make or break, and Sam has given me plenty to chew on while I do the rest of the house. I always come away inspired after poking around in this book.
