I need help with a front entry door. Im thinking of buying a rustic knotty alder front door and not sure if its a good choice. I live in Ohio and the weather can be harsh. Would a knotty alder door survive ohio weather. The door would be protected under a covered porch. It would not be in direct sunlight and it would not be in the rain nor snow, please help with suggestions or opinions!! Thank you

Short answer is if it's built to be an exterior door and properly constructed the type of wood is far less important than how well sheltered it is. It sounds like yours is at least pretty well sheltered.
In my perfect world all exterior doors would be porch protected but it's a have to in the real world for wood doors. Unprotected in my climate if the sun doesn't destroy the finish, moisture will.
