Any set design / theater or stage hands here ? Our church has a very open stage, raised about 40 inches from the sloping floor of the sanctuary. Stage is trapezoidal, probably 24 feet wide at the front. Ceiling is very high, maybe 30 feet, clear span, above the stage.
So we’re considering some sort of trusswork, lighting tower, something that would hold a drapery / stage curtain, yet be totally removable. We’d like to find some sort of socket system that would leave a couple of unobtrusive covers over the holes in the floor. There’s good access to the crawlspace under the stage, and the stage floor itself is red oak strip flooring. Actually, I think there’s a dense masonry product of some sort under the hardwood – there’s no hollow sound at all, even when women in high heels walk across the stage.
Trusses, I have learned, when related to lighting and stage applications, are the triangular steel tubing product that I associate with antenna towers. We would need two vertical truss towers, with hand crank winches, and a horizontal “bridge” that would need to be about 24 feet.
Ideas ? Sources ? I’m near the SW corner of Georgia, where Alabama, Georgia, and Florida meet. Thanks !
Greg

In my twenty plus years in film and theatre production I have spent many , many hours standing under their trusses.
