I enjoy Stan Foster’s pictures of his workshop projects very much. He is a master.
I recently was “Stumbling” and came across this garage craftsman:

That had to take a lot of money.

I got to ride in a sub in Grand Cayman.
best money I ever spent!
second best ... best was snorkling with the sting rays.

Nice link. Reminds me of when the drug cartels were trying to buy that old Russian sub a few years back.
I have been aboard a WWII era Canadian sub that is docked in S.F.
Takes a special person to serve aboard a sub.

Small wheel turn by the fire and rod, big wheel turn by the grace of god.
The museum in Chicago has a Uboat that you can walk through. Don't think I would have wanted to spend months in one of those with 50-100 other guys.

Marv: Thanks for the kind words...I like to post projects....but havent posted near as much as I used to. I like the nice comments..but I kind of get shy and lurk for awhile.
I have said...and still say I am just a proficient stairbuilder...and honest to god..I am NOT a master by no means. I do have an eye for masterpieces...and I havent seen any come out of my shop. Just being brutally honest!

Thanks for the link. Very nice.

Does anybody besides me see the threat something like that would pose?
Let's say to smuggle drugs or people into the country? Maybe something worse?
simple matter to put it on a larger ship just outside the territoral waters and off load it on a busy weekend when viligence is low and there are plenty of weekend boaters to mask all traces of detection by our sosus networks..
In fact didn't we sink one out of Mexico a while back that was used for smuggling drugs? Supposedly one of 10 built?

Or how about a homemade rocket or fertilizer truck bomb? The Navy probably has the signature of his prop noise and can track him around the world. You get out of life what you put into it......minus taxes.

That's precisely why I suggested that the intruder come on a weekend and be carried by a known (and non-suspicious) ship. a large amount of drugs or other controlled substances could be smuggled that way.

There smuggling plenty in on regular boats, don't know if they need to use a sub but I guess it cant hurt!

Supposedly the one sub they caught smuggling is part of a fleet of 10 so at least one group is doing it..
Very cool. My wife is part of a homeschooling group. They have frequent outings. Friday they will be touring the USS Cod in Cleveland, Ohio.
I've provided a link to their site. The USS Cod was busy during WWII.
http://www.usscod.org/
The site lists these combat stats:
"During her seven WW-II war patrols COD fired 122 torpedoes recording 39 hits. Her skippers claimed 10 ships sunk and 5 damaged by torpedo. This is the same average torpedo/ship sinking ratio as for all US subs during WW-II -- that is, one ship sunk for every 12 torpedoes fired. In comparison, the German U-boats sank one ship for every four torpedoes fired."
I thought that ratio was interesting.

Speaking of large scale garage projects, there are many kit airplanes available to those who dream of flying.
