Any feedback outtthere on manufactures to go with/avoid for laminate flooring or is one as good as another. Looking at something that would look loike a solid wood floor and yes cost is critical.

DW and I put down about 800 sqr ft of the cheapest laminate flooring from Sam's Club five years ago. Other than one three inch scratch it's in near perfect condition. And we have sand and gravel around our house that gets drug in by us and five dogs n cats.
Two friends of ours have since put down the same stuff and no one has had any problems.
My son installed ours in two days on his first try at it. A friend and I did his basement floor in one day. Point is, it's an easy install. It does eat the saw blades, though.
Another friend put down a real wood surface version of a similar product (Bruce brand). It did look nice when it was new, but it began to delam in front of the kitchen sink in less than two years.
About 5 years ago I put in real woood floating floor in the bedrooms and laminated floating floor in the kitchen. Bruce and Pergo, respectively and both from HD. The wood floors were 8 inches wide and about 6 feet long. They still look good although the wide boards have cupped slightly and the whole floor gets slight scalloped look on close inspection. This can not be felt just walking across it.
Laminate is laminate.
Get the floors from HD or Lowes and you won't be hassled about returns. I still have basement to do and because I need only 240 square feet and want to keep the cost as low as possible, I plan to buy from Lumber Liquidators who consistently have laminated flooring below $1 per square. I would not buy from Liquidators for larger or prominent areas because this company does not have a good reputation for quality or the service. I plan to pay and cart off the stuff the same day.
Quick step is a pretty good brand for the money...
buy the lower warranty stuff if you can as it is all the same product. No joke...in 2006 we installed 55,000 ft in a 12 story hotel convert to condos, all the same color. The pallets would have different warranty info in the cartons but the product was the same.
Thanks Craig

I put BHK in my house about 6 years ago and it has worked out fine. It has the raised grain and feels good to the foot. Much higher quality than some #### from Lowes I installed for a friend.

Small wheel turn by the fire and rod, big wheel turn by the grace of god.
Didn't know BHK made everything... I get nice RTA drawer boxes from them<G>http://www.tvwsolar.com
I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
"Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in Las Vegas,
And he can do it here."
