Hi, I have enjoyed reading the discussions here. I need some help identifying an attachment for a Porter Cable Laminate Trimmer. I have used this attachment so I know it exists, it also grew legs. My local tool supplier has never heard of it. It was metal, about 4″ X 8″ with a sliding fence about 6″ long. It would cut perfect strips of laminate up to 4″ wide and as long as the sheet. It mounted to the trimmer like a base would.
Thanks, Darrell

Darrell,
I know the attachment you are referring to. It was made by Porter Cable as an optional accessory to its laminate trimmer. I recently tried to find one to purchase but was told (by Porte Cable customer service) it was discontinued due to lack of interest/sales about 4-5 yrs ago. I tried a couple places locally (Mich.) they suggested but nobody has them in stock. If yoy can find any let me know.
Try this tool
(http://www.tapeease.com/LamTls.htm)
it is all I can find-- outside of a very expensive commercial laminate strip cutter.
Good Luck,
Rick
*Try contacting Marc Adams. He has a web site for his school and you could probably email him there. At one of his seminars a couple of years ago he mentioned a some company that makes all kinds of very unusal and specialed bases for laminate trimers.
*Virutex makes a laminate slitter that will cut to 4.3". It also doesn't generate any laminate shavings. I've been using one for 15 years. They work great. Doug
*dspete.. we had the old model virutex.... would only strip about 2.5... it walked..i miss it..gonna get one of the new models like yours.. where did you get it ?
*http://www.virutex.com/virutex-tnt.com-slitter.htmlMike, check out this site. I think this is the tool you are looking for.
*rick.. thanks .. i'll give 'em a call tomorrow
*i just purchased one on eBay about 2 months ago.brian

In all that time have you ever known me to pick on anyone ?Couldn't you see the simple sincerity in my words ?If I'd knowed he wuz yer cuzin, I mighta hit him up for the three grand you owes me...Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to this nukyoolar fission thingy...
*Brian, Thanks for the e-mail. Thanks to the rest of you for your help.Luka, It's better to be owed than cheated.
*Darrell,Mike doesn't owe me anything at all. (Truth be known, I owe him a debt of gratitude.)And that should give you an idea of the tongue in cheekiness of everything else I've written in this discussion.b : )BTW : say hello to your brother Darrel for me. Oh, and ask him when's he going to pay me that 3 grand he owes me...b : )
*rick... ordered the new virutex today.. will strip 4.5 "...
*Mike, Great!! Let me know when it arrives so I can "borrow it". I'm about to finish up a laundry room remodel with a countertop over the front loading washer & dryer. Hope it works well for you.
*Mike,Did you get that bench clamp with it? Looks interesting, but I would like to know if anyone has used one before I order one.
*no.. i'd rather move the trimmer than the clamp.. maybe for short pieces.. but most of our slits are long edging
*I got the new one with the micro adjust a couple of months ago, 100 bucks including shipping, and it is working well. It doesnt quite make it to 4.5 inches but it is close if you adjust it all the way out.
