We just bought a Topcon RL-VH3DR laser level. We have a job to do the following:
- remove 5/8″ partical board (not OSB)
- sand (with Rocks on Paper) the 5/8″ plywood high spots.
- Install 3/4″ AdvanTech floor (the sub-floor needs to be 3/16″ with-in 8′)
Let you know how the new tool works.

It can be a lot easier to pad UP the low spots with 30lb felt or red rosin layers. feather it out to get it flat enough for the Advantech.

I'm sold on laser levels. We bought a cheap ($70) level, I think by Johnson, for our kitchen remodel, and it paid for itself in that one job, leveling the cabinet installation (floor in our 1890-95 house is out of level about 3/4" in 10 feet). The counter installers said the cabinets were the most precise they'd ever seen. Of course, that may have been my OCD kicking in - lots of time fussing with shims.
