Looking at buying a laser level or a transit. Preferably I would like a laser level with a reciever so I could level slabs all by myself. I noticed that the MOMENTUM has what i need but it is much cheaper than the rest. Do you get what you pay for in this case?
Since I have never owned a transit or a laser level, could someone give me the “skinny” on what is appropriate for what I need. I am a trim carp so a laser would be nice,…(OK OK OK I don’t HAVE to have it,…I just want a new toy!!) ButI don’t want to buy somthing that is lacking because I did’nt know any better. I am about to start building my own house so I figure with a transist i could lay out my forms, fences and such. And think How cool I would look….yelling at my wife to lift the form up 1/2 ” and using my hands to signal….or even better,..walkie talkies…yea. The sun shining down onmy bald head as a wipe away the sweat from a hard days work….oh..sorry. I got caught up in the moment.
anyway tell me what you like outa yours and what you should have got to begin with…laser level or just transit. AND ,..don’t lie,..how cool did you feel the first time you used it..

I really don't want to say this, but, have you done a search? Don't know how old the threads are, but you might find info you are looking for or at least know the threads are outt of date.

They are really cool, but if you're trying to impress the girls, fergit it. They'll just say "Isn't that cute," and the go hang out with some guy with a D9 dozer.
I got a Gizmo III, with a 12' pole ( you'd think that would impress the ladies, wouldn't you?) off eBay for 200 bucks. It's great for trim work, generates horizontal and verticle lines (not dots). Bright sunlight makes it tough to see anything, so they also give you some really cool looking laser seein' glasses. I'll bet the thing is pretty worthless outside, unless you're building forms at night.
I use it for figuring how much to cut off door jambs, chair rail, cabinets, lining up adjacent window/door trim, and a bunch of other weird stuff that's better left unexplained. Anyway, definitley worth 200 willies, and for what it's worth, all the guys on the guys on the jobs think it's way cool. Bet that's not what you were looking for, though eh? EliphIno!
This is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. The only lasers I've used were the outdoor type with the remote sensor. IMHO the self-leveling feature is a must have if you like your sanity.
