Started a new project yesterday that will see the completion of a 4 story house I have been remodeling in stages over the past year, the house dates back to around 1875, works so far have involved the following
New family bathroom with bespoke shower screen and teak flooring.
Attic conversion into 3 bedrooms and kids bathroom.
Remodeling of 2nd floor including curved dado rail on stair, new master bedroom and en-suite wet room.
Basic fit out of basement into storage and kids playroom.
New central heating system.
Complete re wiring of house.
So now we start on the 1st floor (or as we call it in the UK ground floor), works up until the holiday break will involve the following :
Partial demolition of existing brick rear addition and conservatory.
Cutting back of suspended concrete floor in conservatory.
Rebuilding of brickwork.
Construction of flat roof and installation of two sky lights. (Being imported from Denmark.)
Installation of new windows to addition and basement. (Being imported from Denmark.)
Installation of Bi Fold doors (Being imported from Denmark.) from addition onto new Swedish Pine deck.
Addition 1 – Rear Addition on in the morning of day 1
Addition 2 – Scaffolding is started, scaffold will support a tin roof while reconstruction is carried out.

"wet room 2" ... wherre is the water tank?
One of the pictures of the stair shows what looks like lights in the wall to light the steps. I really like the curved handrail. Why do you call it a dado?"Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

Wet room over here means a shower room where the floor forms the shower tray and generally while there is a screen there is not a door, will post some pics later of other wet rooms i built, as i am on my lunch at the moment and only got the laptop out to check my emails and ended up here, I love Break Time but it sure can distract you from you other duties. Will also take a close up of the dado rail tomorrow. Yes they are lights in the wall.
you've ben busy!
Interesting how the scale of space is
different then in the U.S.
I like your work, more pics.
Thanks guys, I will try and keep posting pics, leaving for work now to start internal strip out, so will take more pics as job continues.
Great pics. Beautiful work.In the bathroom. I assume the flooring is original to the house. What species? What did you do to protect the wood from the water?
Thanks. The bathroom floor is engineered Teak, we glued the Teak down to a ply sub base and finished the floor with 3 coats of 'Bona, Traffic super matt.Floor was the first job for the client and was fitted 18 months ago and is showing no signs of water damage., even though it is in every day use.
UK, Nice job and nice work- more pics!!
Whats your take on the us economy?
Lou C
Thanks, regarding your economy, I understand that the U.S. has been in recession for at least a year now, we are entering a recession at a terrifying speed. I think the U.S. will be back on its feet quicker than the UK, historically a change of president tends to renew confidence in the government and job security. Where as we have replaced one idiot with another.Went to take some pics today but guess who forgot to charge the battery for the camera.
Nice work. Looks like the house is in the city. with neighbors close on both sides. Does that create any problems with material storage, parking etc?
Looks like you have an unusual problem: pistures too small. Can you make them about 50k?
What is a bespoke shower?
If we tried to import something from Denmark, it would likely be a nightmare considering the distance and customs etc. How does it work for you? Is it easy to get material from the continent?

A bespoke suit is a custom made one. I'd imagine the word can be used in other circumstances.
Thanks.House is in London, pretty much a standard high income house for London. I will email some pics of the street to give you a idea of the density. Regarding problems, it causes a lot, such as,Small staircases meaning we often cannot get 8' x 4' sheets to the upper levels.Parking is a nightmare, especially with over keen traffic wardens ready to fine you £80 for being 30 seconds late moving the van as there are limitations on when and how long you can park for, blocking street to unload a truck or any other reason they feel justifies ruining your day. Material wise we have to have materials delivered a day or two before we need them, can lead to added stress when materials are delayed or damaged. The shower screen was bespoke, as in made to my design by my glass guy. Buying from DK is great for us as they are part of the European Union which allows us free trade with other European Union members, also helps that the wife is Danish and that I was trained by a Danish contractor. The biggest advantage for us though is that we are setting up a Danish window and door supply company in London at the moment.
Very nice project, looks like a fun project.
I like the bathrooms.
80 Pounds for a parking ticket seems criminal.
Here are some more pics of various works i have carried out in the house except for wet room 2 which is the neighbors house.
wet room 2 before, are the floorboards original to the house?
wet room 2 after, what are the wall panels? Are they caulked to the floor?"Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
The floor boards were bot original they were just standard T&G softwood boards painted white, very popular about 10 years ago.The panels are 24"x24" porcelain tiles bedded in flexible tile adhesive, on top of 'Wedi' building board
Here are some better pics of the dado rail, have also attached section of dado as there is some confusion about what it is. Will be interested to find out what you guys call it. Should have some pics tomorrow of the addition as scaffold is now up, one roof is down and second will be down tomorrow.

Been a long week, with two other jobs on the go as well as this job. Have not been able to post pics this week due to work commitments, these pics where taken Thursday morning, will take more on Monday as strip out is almost finished.Scaffold pic shows completed temporary roof.
Strip out 1 & 2 show brickwork and roof removed.
Access shows limited access on job through side access.
That is tight access. Hope the neighbors are friendly. Interesting thread, please keep posting."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

Funny thing is that there are 22 households in the street and I work for 6 of them, all of which are next to each other, so some days I end up going from 1 to another. So yes the neighbors are friendly, some of them I now consider to be friends of mine.
