does anyone know how to determine if trim has oil paint on it ? ( or visa versa )

    Latex will be softened by alcohol, from what I understand. (And alcohol will remove dried latex from shoes and eyeglasses, so I'd guess that's true!) Pretty sure oil-based is not affected by alcohol.

    To add to what Danno said, try denatured alcohol.
