This is really about finishing techniques but maybe you painters can respond. As a hands on GC I do some interior painting. In Colo it has been drought conditions for a couple of years but the humidity in generally low here anyway. Finished off some changes to an existing bedroom and the old “while you’re at it came up”. Repaint some base and casing. I can barely get around both sides (casing, reveal, jamb, stop) and the semi-gloss has skinned over on the first side touched. Is there something other than water (latex paint) one can add to the finish to slow dry time and improve leveling? Can label (where I can read it) says only–water can be added when spraying and then 8oz to the gallon. Owner wanted to use paint he already had to match room–it’s a few years old but mixes fine and looks good. How about it you painters! Low humidity, semigloss latex, brush work–any conditioner? Thanks, Thor [email protected]

Floetrol should help. http://www.floodco.com/Products/floetrol.cfm
Thanks. I'll see if I can find it and try it. Meanwhile, (clock going tick, tick, tick) I poured a little out of the gallon can, added water (label said to add for spraying) and it came out like I wanted. Figured out the water to paint ratio (little "career" math involved) and it was 1 part water to 8 parts paint. Good to know about floetrol though. Thor (despite what the message title says)
Most paint stores have Floetrol, Sherwin Williams stores do for sure.
Add a little dishsoap to the paint and it will flow smooth... no that's for drywall compound. Nevermind, forget I said anything.
Going back to the corner with head hanging down and wearing a dunce cap...
Huh, I always added asbestos (oh, that was makers!) to my mud to get it smooth.
Now, where is that corner? Thor
