I’d like some advice on renovating my 1920 home which is lath & plaster. the outside walls are 2 layers of brick. It seems that the brick is strapped to lath. When removing the plaster in a room, it was discovered that the walls were 1 x 1 , not 2 x 4’s. the plaster could come down but we needed the lath to stay in place with the brick attached. I’m now ready to do the kitchen. Should I leave the lath & plaster and screw dry wall on top or rip the plaster off the wall & put up 2×4’s . I also have wiring & plumbing to do.

You could just rip into to areas where you need to open the walls for plumbing and electrical, then put 3/8 board over the whole thing to hide the damage.
