I own a brick home, built into a hillside (the basement part). This wall has been leaking for several years, but only when it rains very very hard and fast. I had a guy come in and work on it–his guys dug down 10-12 feet and they poured swimming pool concrete on the wall–cost me about $400. We haven’t had too many hard rains but this weekend we did and the water just poured through the wall–more than ever. He has so far refused to come look at it again, so I’m afraid I’ll have to start over. A french drain in the back yard has been suggested, to the tune of $5000. Any other (read: cheaper) ideas?

While he had it dug up, why wasn't a tile line installed???
concrete is not water-proofing. The first principle of water control is to give it someplace else to go - a drainage system.
You hired somebody who did not know what he was doing.
You should have been leary about the price, $400, too low.
