Lean-to roof to wall flashing detail
Hey all,
I’d like to add a lean-to onto an unconditioned shed that I have. The main design issue I’m wondering about is flashing the wall to roof connection. The shed is 2×4 construction and sheathed in T-111 siding.
I know the standard way to flash a wall to roof connection is to run the flashing behind the wall covering and over the first course of shingles on the roof. But how would I do this if the shed wall in question is just the T-111 over the wall studs?
Since the shed is unconditioned and can dry from both sides, does it really matter?
Thanks in advance!

What about something like below:
I didn't show roofing as you may consider something like master rib steel and that would look somewhat different.
Yes this would work, thank you!
When you attach the shed roof to the wall, it will no longer be exposed, but covered by your new framing. This will make it much slower to dry from any water that gets to it, and increase the possibility of mold and rot.
the right way is to cut the existing siding, and flash behind it. (might have to pull it out a bit to get the flashing behind the siding, and re-attach.) You should be able to adjust the depth of a circular saw to cut only the siding. You would want to seal or paint the cut edge that will end up outside the flashing.
Good point about covering things up. It looks like the method you are suggesting is the best course of action, thank you!
