Hi all,
Got inspired by luka’s desktop picture posting and didn’t want to hijack the thread. Let’s see some of your favorite desktop pictures (wallpaper for you windows folks) and what they really look like with all your desktop clutter on them.
Here’s my most recent, which I clicked after our first dusting of snow the other day…

Any of those cars yours? I'm guessing at least the youngster is yours...
I tend to rotate my pix pretty frequently dependingonhow I'm feeling. I had this one of my little boston terrier after he had a run-in with a porcupine up for a long time, but it's too sad for me to keep up now, as I had to put him down a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry to hear about your terrier.
Tell me how to get a screen shot of my desktop, I never knew how.
See that button on your keyboard that says "Print screen" ?Push that button.Ok, now open your graphics programs.Look for "edit".In the menu you get there, look for "Paste as new image".Now save the picture as a .jpg.
A small, unexpected act of kindness, goes a long way.
Thanks, Luka.
You're most welcome.Is that from APOD ?
A small, unexpected act of kindness, goes a long way.
It's the Crab Nebula, from Hubbell.
Don't have a clue how to post my screensaver to here or anywhere else for that matter. (and sure would like to know a easy way to save all of my past screen savers).
But on my pc with windows XP, if I see a pic i want to be my screensaver all I do is as follows: point the pointer thing onto the pic and right click on it. Choose "set as background"
easy ain't it
See that button on your keyboard that says "Print screen" ?
Push that button.
On some machines, it's better to press CTRL+PRTSCRN, as that passes the image to the clipboard, and not to an active printer port.Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
Heck,PC or Mac? I only know how to do it on a Mac...
PC, I think Luka has got me going...let's see...

You sure do keep a tidy desktop. What's the thing with the number 61?
Old buildings also come into heavy rotation on my desktop. Here's a set of shutters on an outbuilding about a block from my house that I had up for a long time this summer...

The "61" in the circle is a memory meter and the dark circle above that is a CPU meter that lights up when there is a load.
And yes I try to keep a clean desktop, I can't stand a cluttered one. If it is not something I need quickly it gets filed.
I rotate pictures of my favourite helper every few months. This is the latest one:

Try using the printscreen button while holding down the ctrl button, as CapnMac suggests...
A small, unexpected act of kindness, goes a long way.
I did that. Nothing, zip, nada. Where am I suppose to do this from? I tried from the desk top and here. Is there a place I need to be to do this? ( Finger between lips on mouth, going up and down!) :)You can't leave a footprint that lasts if you're always walking on tiptoe. ~ Marion Blakey
That's pretty much all I know. You have to have all windows minimized so you are looking at the desktop.Push the print screen button. (While holding down the ctrl button.)Open a graphics program.Find the "paste as" menu, and paste as a new image. (Maybe your graphics program has a "clipboard" menu, instead of a "paste as" menu ?)Save that new image as a jpg, and then you can post it here.
A small, unexpected act of kindness, goes a long way.
ok. well, i appreciate you trying.
If i'm looking at my desk top with all windows closed, where would i find this graphics program? If i can find that, i may be able to get somewhere. You can't leave a footprint that lasts if you're always walking on tiptoe. ~ Marion Blakey

Ok, so you don't even know if you have a graphics program... Yet... You followed Luka's instructions, and it didn't work.he he heYou know, sometimes I have to have things 'splained to me in kiddleygarten terms. But usually I just openly admit I don't have the foggiest, and ask for the kiddleygarten 'splaineration...;o)Here's the kiddleygarten version...=0)*Make sure that all windows are closed, and you are looking at the plain old desktop, like you see in my pic, and several others here.(Whatever you can actually see on the screen, when you do this, will be included in the screen capture. And yes, a "screen capture" is what this is called.)*Hold down the ctrl button.*Push the print screen button.*Let go of the ctrl button. (You have just captured a shot of your screen, and it is being held in the clipboard.)*Now, look for a graphics program.Do you have any of the adobe photoshop programs ? Do you have paint shop pro ? Or anything similar. Do you have some sort of program that lets you 'fix' photographs. (As in, rotate them so they are upright. Resize them. Etc.) If you have none of the above, then simply go to "start" >Programs >Accessories >Paint. *Now find the correct menu to let you paste what is in the clipboard, as a new picture. (If you are using "paint"... **Open the paint program. **Look for "edit" at the top of the window. When you click on edit, you'll get a sub-menu. **In that menu, choose... "paste".)*Now click on the word "File" at the top of the window. *Choose "save as"...*In the save window that opens up, choose a destination for your pic. (I usually just pick the desktop, and then move or delete the file when I am finished uploading it to here.) *Give the pic a name. *Then in the menubox at the bottom of that save window, click the down arrow, and find "JPEG". Click on that. *Now hit the save button. There you go. You should have a picture -of- your screen, -on- your desktop, saved as a .jpgYou can upload that picture to here, the same as you did the picture of the smoke from the fire.=0)

I love it when I can make other people laugh at my expense! You did laugh at that right? I was holding the prscn and ctrl buttons at the same time, but nothing was happening! Just looked normal to me. But I can learn sometimes! Thanks for the class. Now I want a grade teacher.
Actually CapnMac helped me with it through IM. But I appreciate all of your help! You're a sweet person! And I thank you from the depths of my soul! You can't leave a footprint that lasts if you're always walking on tiptoe. ~ Marion Blakey
You bet I was laughing.=0)And trying to be helpful -enough-, too. Here's a hint...When you follow instructions, you have to follow ALL of the instructions to get the end result, not just step one...;o)he he he
Which reminds me of a lesson I never seem to have learned. You can't keep doing the same thing over and over again, and expect different results. See... simple little instruction, and I never seem to catch on. ;o)

I really do appreciate your help though. You've been great. You can't leave a footprint that lasts if you're always walking on tiptoe. ~ Marion Blakey
You can also take heart in the knowledge that you are one of the few today to realize that I was ribbing.=0)Sometimes I get the feeling that I should write a few paragraphs of disclaimer below every post I make...Of course, people would probably find some way to take offense at the disclaimers... I have all of the stuff you listed. My son comes in here once every few weeks and cleans up my computer for me! He even takes it apart and blows all the dust out of it! ladyfire,
I can build a computer, reformat a hard drive, fix most problems. But when it comes to using programs like quickbooks, graphics programs ect, I really stink at it! I was trying to post my desktop, and only got it after Luka's edumacation, that was posted to you :)(thank's Luka..). I was having a hard time converting it from a 1.5 mb bitmap to a jpeg. And next time I need to do this, if ever, chances are,I won't remember how!

*Got the picture from the California Fires thread (I also used the one with the cat, but my kid's changed it because it was "creeping them out....").
I don't think that cat went through the fire.I think he just posted it as a picture he thought you'd like as a screensaver/wallpaper.=0)
A small, unexpected act of kindness, goes a long way.
Luka,
I was meaning to say,I got it from the same thread. I thought it was a cool pic, kid's didn't like it. And I will still slip it back onto the desktop now and then, maaaybe around Halloween.(that's the best time to creep kid's out!!). I think it was the cat's eye's that had that effect.

At least for me. So, I looked for the source, found the link, and went to look at the pic you intentionally posted. Then saw that you had a wallpaper #5 and curiosity got the best of me.If even so much as the -title- of one of the pics had been "embarrassing" I'd have stopped there.
