Hi all –
I’m trying to set posts for the intermediate beam on my deck. Come to find out that the footings (which I didn’t pour) are out of level; one in particular is out of level by 1/8″ or so in two different directions. Apparently building a 2×4 box form and leveling it was too much trouble. So was placing anchor bolts at the time of concrete placement (took care of that already).
I’m using standoff 6″x6″ HDG post bases, which seem to actually make this more difficult. Aside from floating a bit of concrete patch on top to level, then placing the bases & posts, is there anything y’all would suggest?
Howzabout shimming the post bases, or the posts themselves on top of the bases? What would I use for shims if I did that? I was thinking of HDG or SS washers, but they’re awfully thick and don’t allow for much fine adjustment. The other option I thought of for shimming was those composite plastic shims you can buy at the Borg these days.
Much obliged for your thoughts.
Jason

These sound like well within normal tolerances for level concrete.
The plastic shims would be fine

Non-shrink grout. This will allow you to build-up and level each footing by setting your footing plate in it and leveling. It is made for this purpose.
