Due to recent excavation and trenching as part of foundation and utility work, I’ve got some fairly large areas of disturbed soil. I want to get the grass growing again, but I need to smooth these areas out before doing so. My backhoe guy has left it as smooth as he can, which is quite good, but there are tire tracks, lumps, divots, and stuff like that in a lot of places. It’s too much area to rake out by hand (if I want to be able to watch any football too), so I’m looking for a way to do it mechanically. I was thinking of sneaking over to the town park at night and borrowing that thing they drag behind a tractor to smooth out the base paths. My neighbor’s got a tractor so I could definitely drag something around… question is, what?

York rake? Box blade? A length of chain link fence?
Depends on what kind of tractor he has. Is this a piece of construction equipment? Then back blade first. A small utility tractor w a 3-point hitch? Then a york rake or a box blade. A lawn/garden tractor? Then maybe the chain link fence will be all you can do.
Still, think about first getting out there with a hand rake to knock the hard high spots down. Don't need beautiful, just enough to make it easier on the hydraulicl stuff so you're not pushing or rolling the high stuff around the yeard.
get a wooden pallet turn up side down and add a concrete block, drag behind ?
The best employee you can have but you wouldn't want him as a neighbor " He the shifty type"
