Library Chair

doodabug | Posted in Photo Gallery on December 13, 2008 10:48am

Made of mahogany with Briwax finish.

I have been wanting to make one of these for a long time. Don’t know why because I don’t have a library or even read much.

Really nice work - 'course from you, maybe it's a miniature!

I've also been meaning to make one for home use.

Thank You, not a miniature.  Get to cutting Forrest.

    What a cool chair!!!

Did you design it or follow a set of plans?

If it was a plan or template, where did you find it (if you don't mind me asking)?

My sister-in-law is a librarian, would make a great gift.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

      Thanks

I bought a plan from http://www.cherrytreetoys.com but only used it as a guideline.

They showed steps sitting on cleats and I let them in dadoes.and things would have never fit if I had cut to their dimensions.

You might check on internet for better plans.

Thanks and I don't like drywall either.

You wont want to be around me this week then. We scored a commercial job. We just framed a 24x30x12 room around 4 very large hydraulic pumps and now we have to double rock the whole thing this week.

I still get stuck doing it but I don't like it.

I'm in pain. 12' Fire rated. Heaviest stuff i've moved in a long time. This room is 24x30x12 and we have to double the walls.

We should be done hanging tomorrow.

    ...Finally... something life sized!!!

This must have some jobsite applications...sit a bit, work a bit, sit a bit, work a bit....

Of course most of the jobsites I've been on wouldn't require nearly the level of fit and finish that you provide.

    Nice work.

    Scott.

Always remember those first immortal words that Adam said to Eve, “You’d better stand back, I don’t know how big this thing’s going to get.”

But the plant was the most difficult     Thanks

You did a really great job on the chair. One of the possible safety issues i see is the wide board on the seat whose grain is unsupported across the width. I'd be concerned with stress cracking it there and someone going *boom*. A couple of cleats on the underside (when in chair mode) would make it a lot safer.

I'm probably paranoid, but i had friends who sold these at art fairs, among other items and kids' toys, and did extremely well. They also carried a $3 million product liability policy on their business.

    1. doodabug | Dec 19, 2008 12:35am | #23

Thanks There is only 6" there not supported but a couple cleats certainly wouldn't hurt and still easy enough to do.

    Do you need my address?

    ;)

Thanks        No, I can't give you that one and I really don't want to build another.
